JAMMU, Dec 9: Adding an another feather to Jammu and Kashmir, Assistant State Organizing Commissioner (S) Bharat Scouts and Guides, Mr Muhammad Bashir Shawl, a Retired Lecturer of Thanamandi, Rajouri, has been honoured with the ‘Silver Elephant Award-2015’ which is the highest National Award of the Scout and Guide Movement in India.
Muhammad Bashir Shawl received this prestigious award from President of India Pranab Mukherjee at an impressive function held at Darbar Hall in Rashtrapati Bhawan on December 5.
The award has been conferred to Mr. Shawl in recognition of his exemplary leadership and outstanding contribution to Scout/Guide movement in Jammu and Kashmir. He is associated with the scout movement for more than four decades. Mr. Shawl has received numerous awards earlier also.
Mr. Shawl is instrumental in spreading the unity and patriotism among children of border districts of the State as a Unit Leader of Scouts. He utilized opportunities to improve his scouting skills by participating in International Courses and events held in Sri Lanka, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. He supported the activities for young people during National Jamborees held in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi and Kerala.
During his tenure as District Organizer for Scouting, Mr. Muhammad Bashir has inspired large number of Adult Leaders to undergo training of Unit Leader of Scouts/Guides and arranged Training Programmes.
