Services lifted the Santosh Trophy after edging out hosts Punjab 5-4 via tie-breaker in a nail-biting summit clash at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
In the first half, Services had an upper hand and initiated a couple of moves but their attempts did not materialise into goals.
In the second half, Lalramnieng Mawia and Arun Tudu combined made well to pierce through rivals but a defender cleared the ball with hand.
Services players argued with the the referee for a penalty kick, but he awarded a flag corner but they could not do much.
During the tie–breaker all the five players including Captain Anthony, Vibin, Francis Zonuntulnga, Arun Tudu and Rakesh Singh scored goal for the winners.
Parmjit Singh from Punjab failed to score goal during that crucial juncture, resulting in their defeat.
Services have won the title for the fourth time besides finishing runners up on five occasions. (PTI)
