Seminar on ‘Promoting Human Rights’ at MIER

JAMMU, Mar 22: Two day seminar on “Promoting Human Rights and Moral Values in Higher Education” organized by MIER College of Education in collaboration with the Vichar Kranti Manch International (VKMI) commenced today in college campus
On the occasion, Dr Ashok Bhan, Former Director General Police and Chairman, J&K IIPA was the chief guest, while, president of VKMI SK Jain was the guest of honour.
Chairman MIER Group of Institutions Dr Arun K Gupta presented the welcome address. He called for serious discussion on finding ways and means to make youth enlightened about their rights.
College students presented a group song on the theme of the seminar.
Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER disclosed that the proposed seminar was divided into eight sessions for which expert and resource persons had been invited and papers will be presented by teachers and the youth.
Dr Ashok Bhan in his speech raised issues concerning human rights and moral values, which require much attention at different levels.
Later, Dr Bhan accompanied by other dignitaries inaugurated a Poster Exhibition on Human Rights and Values prepared by the students of the college and a wall magazine on “Women and Human Rights”, prepared by the Centre of Women Studies of the college.
SS Wazir, ID Soni, Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Dr KC Dubey, Prof Sarla Kohli, officials of VKMI, Principals, teachers and students were also present.
Later technical sessions were conducted which were addressed by Dr Arvind Jasrotia from PG Department of Law, Jammu University, BS Slathia, Senior Advocate, High Court and Former President, BAR, Jammu and Dr Sunita Zalpuri from Institute of Management Public Administration and Rural Development.
Prof Rita Jitendra, Educationist and social activist and Dr PL Kaul, OSD, MIER chaired two parallel sessions of paper presentations, during which 16 papers on different themes were presented.
At the end, Dr Annie Kaul, HOD, BEd Department, MIER College presented vote of thanks.
