JAMMU, Mar 22: Jammu district secured gold medals in the under 14 Foil and Sabre (Men) events organised during 11th J&K Open State Fencing Championship, which commenced at Katra today.
In under-14 Foil team (Men), district Udhampur secured silver medal, whereas, district Reasi and district Kathua shared bronze medals.
In under 14 Sabre team (Men), Jammu district claimed gold medal, whereas, district Reasi secured silver medals. The bronze medals were shared by district Kathua and district Udhampur.
In under 20 individual Sabre team event, Koushal Sharma and Javed Ahmed outplayed their respective opponents and will now clash in the finals.
Earlier, Raghubir Singh, SSP Reasi, who was the chief guest declared the championship open, in presence of Mohan Lal, Additional SP Katra, Rajinder Katoch, DSP Katra, Vijay Sharma, secretary, J&K Amateur Fencing Association, Amrish Magotra, president, district Reasi Fencing Association, Jagdish, organizing secretary and Shotu Lal, Fencing coach.
While speaking, SSP encouraged the participants to boost up their games. He also applauded the contribution and success of State Fencers at national and international events.
Shotu Lal, Rashid Ahmed, international player, Pritam Singh Slathia, Ajay Khartol, Dimple Thappa, Shivani Hans and Ishu Bharti were the technical officers in the today’s event.
