*J&K’s Surya Bhanu Partap Singh selected for BRICS Games

JAMMU, May 4: The two day long Wushu selection trial for the BRICS Games and 10th Asian Wushu Championship concluded here today. Surya Bhanu Partap Singh is the only player from Jammu and Kashmir selected for BRICS Games.
The statement said Wushu Association of India finalised 20 players of Indian Wushu team for the BRICS Games, whereas the National campers for the 10th Asian Wushu Championship will be shortlisted within a couple of days. Wushu Association of India honoured Arjun Awardee N Roshibina Devi (Asian Games Silver medalist) during the event.
The deadline for the final entry to be sent to the Sports Authority of India for the BRICS games is May 5 whereas the proposal for the National Wushu coaching camp will be finalised within a couple of days.
Eight players in the Sanda event including three women and 12 Taolu players including seven men and three women athletes have been finalised for the BRICS Games. The selected players were 52kg Anuj (BSF), 56kg Sunil Singh (Services), 60kg Sachin (ITBP), 65kg Surya Bhanu Partap Singh (J&K), 75kg Vikrant (Services), 48kg (Women) Aparna (Haryana), 56kg (Women) Jhanvi (Rajasthan) and 65 Kg (Women) Nitika Bansal (Rajasthan).
In (Taolu) M Suraj Singh Services), Rohit Yadav (ITBP), Neeraj Kumar SSB), Y Bonish (Manipur), H Karanjit Sharma Services), K Monish Singh (Manipur), Anjul Namdeo Services), Rezina Tamang (Delhi), H Langglentombi (Manipur), Bhooraksha Dubey (MP), Priyanka (UP) and Vanshika Namdeo (MP).
The Wushu Association of India has proposed the National Squad for the BRICS Games to Sports Authority of India for the sanction of the Indian team for the Games and the sanction for the National Wushu coaching camp for the selected campers, so that the best performance can be extracted from the selected team.
However, the Wushu Association of J&K appreciated all the selected players and wished them all the best for the event. Suhel Ahmed CEO Wushu Association of India thanked Wushu Association of J&K and the J&K Sports Council for hosting the selection trials with great success and hoped that in future, J&K will host so many national stature events. Moreover, he conveyed that recently they requested the Secretary (Sports) for the establishment of Wushu Academy in J&K so that most of the National Wushu Coaching camp will be held in UT J&K. Vijay Saraf, General Secretary Wushu Association of India presented memento to Suhel Ahmed and thanked him for choosing Jammu for the national selection trials.
