*Interacts with participants of 46th Bhatnagar Memorial Indoor Games

JAMMU, Oct 30: Minister of Science and Technology and Vice President CSIR, Dr Jitendra Singh, while interacting with the participants of the 46th Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Indoor Games on day-2 here said that Science and Sports can go parallel and the Scientists can perform better as it is the healthy mind which can do better Science.
This statement of the Minister was endorsed by Dr RA Vishwakarma, Director IIIM Jammu, who while comparing growth of the Country with the growth of sports, gave an example of United States where maximum gold medals are achieved in sports and the Scientists are doing better and productive Science.
Dr Jitendra said that it was his dream to bring Scientists and sportspersons together for better results in both the fields.
The Minister and Vice President CSIR further said that earlier the Ministers and even the Bureaucrats considered Ministry of Science and Technology as punishment but in the modern era, especially in the Narendra Modi led present Government more focus is given on Science and Technology in the Country.
He said the system has been revamped and the foreign tours of the Ministers have been curtailed to save money and use the same in the developmental works, adding that he has immense satisfaction in witnessing change in the system for better and prosperous India.
Dr Jitendra said that the only ‘mantra’ to make India healthy and prosperous is to catch the Scientists young and train them, adding that enhancing stipend of the research scholars from Rs 22000 to Rs 46000 was simply a step forward with regard to making India healthy and strong.
He said that the need is to use Science as a medium of social transformation, adding that Science is presently going through its golden period in the Country as it receives the maximum attention.
Dr Jitendra informed that ‘Run for Unity’ Marathon will be organized in Jammu tomorrow to celebrate the birth anniversary of eminent freedom fighter Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel.
Earlier yesterday, the Indoor Games in the disciplines of chess, badminton, table tennis, carom and bridge, being organized by IIIM Jammu were declared open by its Director Dr R A Vishwakarma in an impressive opening ceremony.
200 players drawn from 10 CSIR National Institutes from allover India are taking part in these Games, which are being organized in Jammu after over 25 years. The participating teams include IICT Hyderabad, NGR Hyderabad, CSIR Nigri, CSIR CERC Chennai, CSIR Trivantipuram, CSIR Delhi, CECRI Bubneshwar, CSIR Karakudi, CSIR IITR Lucknow, and CSIR Complex Chennai.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Vipin Kumar, Renuka Ramachandra and Radhakrishan.
