JAMMU, May 21: After glorious run last year, scaling the world’s highest peak Mt Everest, Jammu and Kashmir’s Rahul Jarngal from Hiranagar climbed Mt Kanchenjunga today while representing Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
This outstanding achievement of ace mountaineer apart from bringing laurels to the State, has kept the State’s flag high at the national scene and is a step forward in helping Jammu and Kashmir to carve a space on the Country’s sports map.
Earlier, Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, had flagged off the ONGC Mt Kanchenjunga Expedition on April 2, 2018.
Kanchenjunga, is the third highest mountain in the world, and lies partly in Nepal and partly in Sikkim, India.
It rises with an elevation of 8,586 m (28,169 ft) in a section of the Himalayas called Kangchenjunga Himal that is limited in the west by the Tamur River, in the north by the Lhonak Chu and Jongsang La, and in the east by the Teesta River.
While Mt Everest is the highest peak in the world, Kangchenjunga is believed to be the toughest one.
Meanwhile, J&K’s Nirmal Kumar was the part of 1st ONGC team that scaled Kangchenjunga yesterday, while Rahul was part of the 2nd ONGC team that summitted Kangchenjunga in the early hours along with Yogender Garbiyal, Akash Bavariya, Surendra Prasad Jakhmola and Indian Mountaineering Feder-ation’s Sheetal.
Working as Executive Engineer Instrumentation, ONGC Hazira Plant, Surat in Gujarat, Mr Jarngal has the distinction of being exceptional in sports and academics.
After passing his 12th class from JNV Basohli, Rahul had joined NIT Jalandhar for B.Tech and is presently in the elite group of Engineers at ONGC.
Son of Banarsi Dass (retired Assistant Commissioner NVS) and Kamala Devi (Child Development Project Officer-ICDS Samba), Rahul has the honour of being an athlete to almost a perfection.
Rahul has one brother in Manav Jarngal, who is pursuing MBA from Central University of Jammu, besides having one sister in Nidhi Jarngal, who is working as an Assistant Professor at Govt Degree College Hiranagar.
