JAMMU, Nov 29: Secretary Youth service & Sports, Sarmad Hafeez today inspected the status of upcoming Indoor Sports Complex at MA stadium here.
The stadium has been financed under the JKIDFC sponsored languishing projects scheme and will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.10 crore.
The stadium is set to be completed soon and is scheduled to host a table tennis tournament on the eve of its inauguration. The proposed tournament is the 81st national level table tennis championship in which more than 900 top-notch players from all over the country are going to participate.
The executing agencies informed the secretary that the stadium is a multi-storey, multi-purpose facility established to give fillip to the talent of the budding athletes of J&K. They further informed that the stadium has been constructed on the modern lines and equipped with all the gadgets and equipments currently used across the country.
The Secretary directed the construction agency to ensure that the facilities provided here are of world-class and proper facilities of hygiene are made available in the stadium. He asked them to landscape and develop the ambient environment of the stadium so that the players have an aesthetic feel while playing the games here.
The stadium has all the facilities to host sports events of Judo, Weight-lifting, Wushu, Table tennis, Basket-ball, Kabbadi etc. The stadium is the biggest complex in Jammu with all the facilities under one roof. The stadium has been constructed in a record period of time.
The Secretary also took stock of the ongoing work on M.A Cricket Stadium constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 42.71 crores. The officer was informed that the work is on the final stage and is going to be completed in this financial year only. The visiting officer was informed that stadium would be of international standards and could host international, national and IPL matches also.
Secretary Sports Council Naseem Javaid Chaudhary also accompanied the Secretary on this visit and apprised him about the kind of projects and facilities provided by the Council.
