Samba girls shine in Inter-District U-19 volleyball

JAMMU, Sept 15: The girls of District Samba displayed grit, guts, class and skill and got better of the strong side of District Kathua in the summit clash to lift the title trophy of the Divisional Level Inter-District Volleyball Tournament which concluded at Youth Hostel Nagrota, here today.
District Samba defeated the rivals in three straight sets by (25-23, 25-14 and 25-15) in a five setter contest. For Samba, Rimaka Jamwal and Nazia displayed superb smashing and lifting skills, while Parika Sharma of District Kathua also played powerful game.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, Kathua prevailed upon Udhampur by (25-23, 25-20) to seal berth in the final. Parika Sharma was the top performer for Kathua, while superb show by Pinki Kumari and Vaishali from Udhampur went in vain.
Meanwhile, in the second semifinal, Samba outplayed Rajouri in two straight sets by (25-6, 25-16) to make way for the finals. Nazia Akhter and Rimika Jamwal played splendidly to help their team script an easy win, while Rimpy Mala’s outstanding display failed to hamper the chances of District Samba to qualify for the finals.
Over 150 girls drawn from six districts of Jammu division participated in the tournament.
Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Ashok Kumar was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sukhdev Singh, District Youth Servies and Sports Officer Udhampur, Manorama Sharma, Sarita Pandha, Pushpa Sharma, Jeet Singh, Jaswant Singh and Rakesh Kakkar.
The matches were officiated by Tarseem Singh, Jagjeet Singh, Mulak Raj and Ravan Gupta.
