REASI, Sept 18: A two day Rural Sports Competition being organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports District Reasi under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) concluded at Kheralair, here.
Sarpanches/Panches of Panchayat Kheralair, Pouni, Bharakh and Kanha were invited to this rural sports event.
Bansi Lal, Principal Government Higher Secondary School Pouni while speaking on the inauguration as a chief-guest highlighted the role of sports in the building of disciplined citizen, aimable society and nation.
Prominent among others who added colour to this occasion included Headmaster BR Puri, Sarpanch Kamal Singh, ZPEOs Om Parkash & Manohar Lal, Devinder Khajuria, Kamal Kishore, Harbhajan Singh and Manjeet Singh. The Competitions were held in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Wrestling and Athletics.
Retired Captain Surjeet Singh and Subedar Gurmeet Singh gave away medals and trophies to the toppers at the prize distribution ceremony.
Earlier, in the Volleyball final, Pyt Laiter defeated Kahana 2-1 (14-16, 15-8,15-12). The third place went to Pyt Kheralair.
In Kabaddi, Panchayat Laiter defeated Panchayat Bharakh in an evenly contested match with the score of 37-33. The third place was bagged by Panchayat Pouni with the score of 28- 15.
In Kho-Kho, the boys of Panchayat Bharakh remained toppers followed by Kheralair and Pouni at the second and third spots.
In Athletics, 100mtr race gold and silver was bagged by Navjeev Singh of Bharakh and Mohd Zakir of Kahana respectively.
In 400mtr race, Kulvinder Singh of Ransoo won gold and Neeraj Sharma of Pouni bagged silver.
In 800 mtr race, the gold and silver was bagged by Mohd Aslam of Sangar and Ramit Sharma of Bharakh respectively.
In 1500 mtr race, Mohd Aslam of Sangar and Manjeet Singh of Pouni remained on 1st and 2nd place respectively, while in Long Jump Kulvinder Singh of Ransoo bagged gold while Sunil Kumar of Gajore claimed silver and in High Jump, the gold and silver meals went to Mohd Aslam of Sangar and Balbir Singh of Kahana respectively.
In Shot Put, Sourab Kesar of Dadoa bagged gold while Kulvinder Singh of Ransoo bagged silver, while in Discuss Throw Ajay Sharma of Theot and Neeraj Sharma of Pouni bagged gold and silver respectively.
In Wrestling under the weight categories of 42 kg, 46 kg, and 50 kg, the gold medals were bagged by Abhi Kumar of Dadoa, Rajeev Singh of Bharakh and Balbir Singh of Kahana respectively.
