Rs 30000 fine imposed on leading sports items selling stores

JAMMU, May 20: To keep check on the sale of sports items for the use of children in the summer seasons, the Department of Legal Metrology kept hawk’s eye s on the sale of such products which are being sold over and above MRP and on exorbitant rates thereby cheating the gullible consumers.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology (Consumer Protection), the Department received complaints of sale of swimming costumes, caps and swimming Goggles which are imported in our country without adhering mandatory declarations which are necessary for the information of the purchasers.
He informed that the team of the officers of LMD conducted extensive checking of the stores dealing with sale of such items and found number of discrepancies related to declarations of MRP and address of the manufacturers on sports items.
Rohit Gupta Inspector Legal Metrology Jammu Lower booked two leading stores in Gandhi Nagar area and seized deceptive goods like shuttle cocks, sports t-shirts, trousers, knee cap and elbow cap which were not marked with MRP and other declarations.
Both the dealers were fined Rs 15000 each with the undertaking that the sale of deceptive sports items will not be made in future and all purchases be in accordance with the provisions of law in force for the purpose.
