UDHAMPUR, May 6: In an endeavor of promoting village level sports and games, the Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Talwara under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Uniform Force Headquarters, Reasi conducted Kho- Kho competition for girl students at village Shikari and Barakh.
52 girl students from six schools in the region participated in the competition. The enthusiasm and talent of the students was witnessed by a large group of spectators including Sarpanches, village elders and officials from the Army and civil administration.
The event conducted under project Sadbhavana aimed at identifying talent and promote sportsmanship amongst the youth. The Army has assured continued support on such goodwill projects. The conduct of such sports event virtually is a crowd puller and would strengthen the adventurous streak in the local youth of the region.
To de-stress the youth and promote the adage ” Healthy mind in Healthy Body” such sports activities in remote areas facilitate in remaining physically fit and also develop strong bonds of solidarity and act as a great motivating force inculcating true sportsman spirit and competitive streak amongst the youth.
The events were conducted as part of promoting sports and games among students from rural areas. Various prizes were awarded to the teams on conclusion of the completion of the tournament.
The Sarpanch of village Shikari thanked the Army authorities for giving an impetus to women empowerment in the region.
