COIMBATORE Top drivers of the country, including Gaurav Gill, Amittraji Ghosh, Arjun Rao Aroor and Karna Kadur, will be seen in action in Round one of the MRF FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship-2016 (INRC), to be held here tomorrow.
To welcome foreign drivers and cars, a separate championship known as the Indian Rally Championship (IRC) is also being run concurrently, which will have five rounds in different parts of the country.
While Indian drivers in Indian cars are eligible for the INRC, Indian or Foreign drivers in Indian or Foreign cars are eligible for the IRC, a release from Coimbatore Auto Sports Club, the organisers, said.
The rally has received 36 entries through its various classes, being a) INRC Overall upto 3500cc cars including turbo factor, b) INRC 2000cc and c) FMSCI Cup for vehicles homologated prior to December 31 2007, the release said.
The IRC, which is still at a nascent stage, received three entries with the Evo VIII of Abhilash PG and Evo X of Samir Thapar being the top contenders in this championship.
The rally covers around 200 km, which include 75 km of six special stages (driving tracks) on gravel roads.
The route of the stages are closed sections of public/private roads which have been disclosed to competitors for reconnaissance.
The special stages are to be covered by the teams tomorrow in and around Kethanur, on the outskirts, while the pre-event shakedown was held this evening.
Shakedown, a concept introduced this year, is a procedure conducted to provide some pre-rally practice and testing to all the competitors. (AGENCIES)
