KATHUA, Jan 15: Director General of Police , Dr. S P Vaid said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been focussing on promoting sports activities in the State and the Organization has been providing logistic support to the talented youngsters to provide them opportunities to hone their skills in the field of sports.
Dr S P Vaid was speaking at the closing ceremony of 7th Police Martyrs Memorial Cricket Championship 2016-17 at Sports Stadium Kathua this afternoon. The tournament was inaugurated on December 16, 2016. He felicitated the teams who participated in the tournament and showed best performance during the tourney. He said that more than 16 teams from the State and North India took part in the prestigious tournament.
The DGP said that JKP is organizing various tournaments in the State every year in the memory of its martyrs, who have laid down their lives for bringing peace and normalcy in the State. He further said that police organization besides its professional duties is promoting sports culture in the State and the motive behind this is to provide platform to the youth to achieve excellence in the field so that they could compete at national and international levels. He said that the organization has chalked out the sports calendar for the year 2017 and different tournaments of various sports events would be organized at different places across the State.
The DGP said that the activities have helped enthusing the youth of the State for greater participation in sports. He said that the events have served as a bridge of understanding and good will between the people and police. Paying tributes to police martyrs, he said that sacrifices of these martyrs have made JKP proud and their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
On the occasion, final match was played between Sabhi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur and Khanna Cricket Club Jargoan. Sabhi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur won the match and lifted the championship. Harshit was declared as Man of the Match and Gurkeerat Mann of Sabhi Cricket Club Hoshiarpur was declared as Man of the series.
The DGP appreciated the efforts of Kathua Police, Shaheed Welfare Committee and Sponsors for organizing the prestigious tournament in a well organized manner. He distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winning team including bumper prize (Alto 800 Car) to the Man of the Series.
Among the others, the closing ceremony was attended A.K Choudhry IPS (M.D PHC), Danish Rana IPS,IGP Jammu Zone,Jammu , Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, DIG JSK Range Jammu, Romesh Kumar IAS Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Pawan Parihar, SSP Kathua , Joginder Singh, SSP Samba , Principal PTS kathua, Sanjeev Khajuria, Khalil Ahmed Poswal Additional S.P Kathua , Chairman CTM Kathua, President District Industries Association, Ajit Bawa, and Prominent Industrialists, citizens, families of martyrs and large gathering of cricket lovers.
