JAMMU, Mar 20: National Seminar on Teacher Empowerment was organized by Ranjit College of Education, Rakh Bandhuwala, here today.
Former Minister S Harbans Singh presided over the function, while Deshbandhu Gupta, Director College Development Council, University of Jammu was the chief guest in the inaugural session.
Er Manmeet Singh, Chairman of the College in his welcome address opined that this National Seminar on Teacher Empowerment has provided an opportunity to renew contacts and discern problems of mutual interest and find out solutions.
Dr G Q Sheikh, Seminar Director in his inaugural keynote address said that the influence of electronic media has bearing upon school going children far beyond the boundaries of the family and the immediate community. He said that ever increasing graph of violence, insecurity among girls, corrupt practices and other criminal activities indulged in by youth and adolescents is a pointer to address and redress with seriousness influencing the roots not the aerial parts.
Prof Desh Bandhu laid emphasis on conducting such seminars which may help planners and decision making authorities to reshape and restructure the teacher education in a desired direction.
S Harbans Singh endorsed the views expressed by the Director, College Development Council and assured him of checking the menace of absenteeism in the classrooms.
In the technical session, all the resource persons from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and J&K presented their research papers which was followed by paper presentation by 41 participants of different Colleges dividing them into four different groups according to sub-themes.
In the valedictory function, Prof Keshav Sharma was the chief guest who in his address highlighted the importance of teacher in the 21st Century for shaping and restructuring the society as per demand.
He also honoured some students of the College who brought laurels to the College during the current session.
Prof Satinder Kour presented the vote of thanks in the morning session and Prof Ritu Choudhary in the evening session.
