JAMMU, Nov 1: Skipper and off-spinner Parvez Rasool wrecked havoc and spun web around Kerala batsmen to restrict them to a total of 219 runs in 76 overs in their first innings after opting to bat in the Ranji Trophy Group-B 4-day Match, which got underway at Tiruvananthapuram  in Kerala today.
At stumps on day-1, Jammu and Kashmir were at 16 for no loss, with openers Ahmed Banday and Shubham Khajuria on unbeaten 7 runs each, facing 42 and 31 balls respectively.
Earlier, Kerala lost three early wickets for 44 runs in 16.2 overs including that of Jalaj Saxena for his individual score of 22 runs, before Sachin Baby (19) fell at 91 runs in 34th over of the innings. However, Samson and Arun Karthik consolidated the innings to take the score to 170 runs in 50.2 overs, when Karthik was caught by Mohammad Mudhasir after the bowling of Amir Aziz for his individual score of 35 runs. Sanju Samson continued to play aggressively but sensibly to score 112 runs off 187 balls, studded with 114 boundaries and one massive six. However, he lost support of his partners as none of the remaining five batsmen could cross the double figure mark.
Parvez Rasool was the wrecker-in-chief for J&K, who took 6 important wickets by conceding 70 runs in his 26 overs, while Amir Aziz bagged 2 wickets by giving away 75 runs in 29 overs. Earlier, Mudhasir took the first 2 wickets of opener Vishnu Vinod for 5 runs and Rohan Prem for naught.
Jammu and Kashmir now trail by 203 runs with all wickets in hand.
J&K team is being accompanied by Prithvi Vaid as manager, Mithun Manhas as head coach, Abdul Qayoom as coach, Majid Dar as assistant coach, Dr Aijaz Chilloo as physio, Mushtaq Ahmed Rather as trainer and Sheikh Suhail as video analyst.
