Rashtriya Rifles conducts cricket tournament

JHANGAR, Oct 14: Rashtriya Rifles Big Bash (RRBB) Intra Village Cricket Tournament Trophy was lifted by team from Bhawani village by trouncing the strong team from Lam village by 32 runs in the finals of the Rashtriya Rifles Big Bash T-20 Tournament, played at Lam, today.
The tournament was organized by Jhangar based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion which started from October 4 and concluded today with an aim to identify budding cricketers from the far flung areas of Naushera tehsil and promote them.
Six top teams from the Naushera Tehsil participated in the tournament which was conducted as per Twenty-Twenty format on league cum knockout basis.
Gurpreet Singh, skipper of Bhawani team won the toss and elected to bat first, and scored 148 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.  Chasing the score, the team from Lam Village scored 116 runs in 19.3 overs.
Bhawani Team won the glittering winner’s trophy along with cash prize of Rs. 16000, while the runners up team received cash prize of Rs 8000.  ‘Man of the Series’ and ‘Man of the Match’ awards were also felicitated in the presence of civil dignitaries and sports enthusiasts.
Amit Choudhary, winner of ‘Man of the Match’ awardee in the final match was excited on victory of his team, said that this tournament has added a new chapter in his life and this would surely motivate the youth of neighboring villages also  to choose sports as their career.
The people of the area urged the Army officials to include other sports activities also.
Cricket, being one of the popular sport in the area, attracted spectators of all age and the locals were overwhelmed by the initiative of the Indian Army.
