BATOTE, June 8: As part of the Environment Week, the Department of Environment and Remote Sensing organized a Symposium, Slogan Writing competition and a Rally at Government Higher Secondary School, Kud here.
VK Raina, Conservator of Forests, was the chief guest on the occasion, who while speaking highlighted the various problems faced due to degradation of environment and deliberated on as how to save it from further deterioration. Mohd Mushtaq Wani, Principal Government Higher Secondary School Kud presided over the function.
Meanwhile, in Slogan Writing competition, Sourav Kotwal, Neha Devi and Shalu Devi bagged first, second and third position in junior section respectively, while consolation prize went to Veena Devi. Arbaz Khan was given a special prize.
In senior section of Slogan Writing competition, Taniya, Raghubir Singh and Shilpa claimed first three places respectively, while Amandeep Kour got the consolation prize.
In Symposium, Amandeep Kour bagged the first place, while Shilpa Kotwal and Jyoti Rani claimed second and third place respectively. Rohit Sharma got the consolation prize.
Later-on, Irshad Masoom Mir presented vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, J&K Police Public School Miran Sahib organized a rally under the project for NEAC on the theme ‘Forest for Sustainable Livelihood’. Hundreds of students took part in the rally, which started from Sangrampur and culminated at Marh, Karloop in Jammu.
The main objective of the rally was to raise awareness among the inhabitants of the environment degradation and its ill effects on the human being. At village Karloop, the students interacted with the farming community and exchanged their views about the benefit ratio of the crop and how their economy was enhanced after they took over to Gladiolus cultivation. Farmer Kewal Krishan briefed the students about the cultivation and cost benefit ratio of the crop. Dr Nazir was instrumental in making the rally a grand success.
