Rakshak, Garvita, Ankita bring laurels to State, Country

JAMMU, Dec 1: Three Roll Ball players from Jammu and Kashmir, namely Rakshak Jandyal, Garvita Gupta and Ankita Chopra brought laurels to the State and the Country as well by being the members of Indian men and women Roll Ball teams which emerged champions and runners-up respectively in the 2nd Asian Roll Ball Championship held at Bangkok, Thailand recently.
While, the men’s team became Asian Champion after defeating Pakistan in final, girls’ team was the runners-up.
The office bearers of J&K Roll Ball Association alongwith the trio of Rakshak, Garvita and Ankita called on Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para after their return from Bangkok.
Mr Para lauded the efforts of the J&K players for this outstanding achievement and assured full support of J&K State Sports Council for promoting Roll Ball in nooks and corners of the State.
Sudhir Singh, Secretary of the Association apprised the Secretary Sports Council about the infrastructural facilities existing in the State and requested for its uplifting.
He further informed Mr Para that the Game of Roll Ball is recognized by the Government of India, Indian Olympic Association, Indian Universities and School Games Federation of India (SGFI), but unfortunately is yet to affiliate with J&K State Sports Council.
Para assured the office bearers that he will take initiative with regard to affiliation of Roll Ball Game with Sports Council.
He said that the time is ripe to promote medal winning sports disciplines in the State.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Abdul Qayoom, Chief Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council, Rajinder Kumar, Madhu Sharma, Vasu Sharma, Ananya Khajuria and Bhanu Khajuria.
Madhu Sharma was Chief Technical Official during this Championship.
