PU Patiala to take on SKUAST Kashmir in inaugural tie

JAMMU, Nov 18: PU, Patiala will take on Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST), Kashmir in the inaugural tie of All India Vice Chancellor’s T-20 Cricket Cup, hosted by University of Jammu, tomorrow.
This was stated by Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, during a press conference here this afternoon.
He informed that altogether 20 Universities will participate in the tournament, which will conclude on December, 3.
Minister for Sports, Technical Education and Medical Education, RS Chib, will inaugurate the tournament at University of Jammu tomorrow at 10 am.
During the tournament, matches will be played on league-cum-knock out basis. All the teams were divided into Pool A (University of Jammu, PAU, Ludhiana, IGNOU, Delhi, GB Pant University and North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon), Pool B (University of Kashmir, Jamia Milia Islamia, GNDU, Amritsar, University of Pune, DDU Gorakhpur University), Pool C (University of Mumbai, HP University, Shimla, EDU Board, Ajmer, SKUAST, Jammu and MANUU, Hyderabad) and Pool D (PU, Patiala, SKUAST, Kashmir, MDS University, Ajmer, PU, Chandigarh and Delhi University), Prof Ishar added.
Each team will play four matches in their respective pools and two top teams from each pool (whosoever qualifies) will be picked up for quarter-finals. Thereafter, from  November 30,  the knock-out competitions will begin, he informed.
“The competition shall be conducted on the guidelines of Twenty20 International Cricket Council (ICC) under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIUs)”, Prof Ishar said.
Prof Ishar added that various Committees have been formed to ensure smooth conduct of the tournament. He also appreciated the work of Directorate of Physical Education, Jammu University Non Teaching Employees Union and various other University units who are working hard turn the event a grand success.
Vice-Chancellor hoped that students, cricket lovers will turn up in large numbers to witness these cricket matches and encourage the participating teams.
All the necessary arrangements for boarding and lodging for the comfortable stay of the participating teams from all over the country has been made.
Among others present were Prof Naresh Padha, Registrar, Prof Dhain Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Physical Education, Ranjeet Kalra, Convenor, Media and Publicity Committee, Jai Kumar Sharma, OSD to Vice-Chancellor, Dr Dawood Iqbal Baba, Raj Kumar, Vinay Thusoo, Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Sunil Sahi, Team Manager.
Jammu University had won the VC’s T20 Cup continuously for two years in 2008-09 at Mumbai and in 2009-10 at Kashmir but lost the semifinals last year at Delhi.
