PU Patiala scripts 54 runs victory over SKUAST Kashmir in inaugural tie

*Enthusiastic Prem Parkash of PU, Patiala scalps 4 wickets

JAMMU, Nov 19: Punjab University (PU), Patiala scripted 51 runs victory over Sher-e-kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences (SKUAST), Kashmir in the inaugural tie of the All India Vice-Chancellor’s T-20 Cricket Tournament at Gymnastic Hall Ground, Jammu University, here today.
Batting first, after winning the toss, PU, Patiala scored a huge target of 161 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Preet Pal Singh played well, thrashed some crispy shots and scored 64 runs including 8 fours and 2 lofty sixes. Prem Parkash and Parminder Singh also contributed 46 and 28 runs respectively.
For SKUAST side, Kashmir side, Mudassir Ali scalped 2 wickets, while, Mohd Ayub and Abdul Majid claimed one wicket each.
In reply, SKUAST, Kashmir failed to chase the target and bundled out at 107 runs for all out in stipulated overs. Sajad Ahmed was the top scorer with 25 runs, while, Gowhar Ahmed and Arif Hamid made 14 and 10 runs respectively.
For PU, Patiala side, Prem Parkash was the wrecker-in-chief who scalped 4 wickets by just giving 19 runs in his 4 over spell, while, Ramdeep Singh and Deepal Manmohan also scalped 2 wickets each.
Earlier, Minister for Medical Education and Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib, who was the chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated 4th All India Vice-Chancellor’s T-20 Cricket Cup at University Sports Stadium in presence of Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Prof Naresh padha, Registrar, Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Manoj K Dhar, Controller of Examinations, Prof Keshav Sharma, Chief Coordinator, all Campuses, Prof Dileep Singh, President, JUTA, Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director, DIQA, Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, Director, SHTM, Deans, Directors, Officers, scholars and staff.
Prof Dhain Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, presented the welcome address and gave synoptic details of the event.
Sports Minister said that Jammu University was a centre of excellence in curricular and extra-curricular activities as it has the distinction of winning the All India Vice Chancellor’s Cricket Cup for the two consecutive years.
He said such events provide an opportunity to the participating players to play with ace players from different parts of the country.
Chib said coming up Indoor Stadium in University   would provide added facilities to the enthusiastic sports persons, adding that the Department of Youth Services and Sports would also extend helping hand in providing sports infrastructure to this premier educational institution.
Chib announced Rs 10 lakh out of his CDF for construction of University Indoor Stadium.
While speaking, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Chairman of the organizing committee said that November 19 happens to be birth Anniversary of Late Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi and is celebrated as National Integration Day.
He said that today’s event is also befitting tribute to late Leader where teams from various parts of Country representing various cultures have come together at Jammu University to compete in a atmosphere of brotherhood and sportsmanship in this tournament.
At the end, Sunil Sahi, Manager, JU team presented vote of thanks.
In tomorrow fixture, Pune University will take on DDU, Gorakhpur and JU, Jammu will clash with Jalgaon University at University Main Gate ground, whereas, Mumbai University will take on MANUU, Hyd and EDU Board, Ajmer will clash with SKUAST-J at Gymnasium Hall Ground.
