JAMMU, Mar 25: Providing an opportunity to young minds to express themselves and encourage them to exhibit their hidden ability on a proper platform, the Department of Information organized a programme on environmental and social issues at Bal Niketan, Ved Mandir here today.
On the occasion, Joint Director Information, Smita Sethi was the chief guest, while vice president Bal Niketan, Captain Purshotum Sharma presided over.
Interacting with the inmates, the Joint Director lauded them for possessing such immense aptitude and flair that they could be ranked amongst the finest speakers. She said the way each speaker expressed their outlook on diverse issues was not only charismatic but also revealed the talent they possess.
Students participated actively in the programme and shared views on different environment and social issues confronting the society. They expressed concern over the social evils and environmental degradation and also gave concrete suggestions on preserving the ecological balance and weeding out social crimes.
On the occasion, Mrs Sethi presented trophies and prizes to the best adjudged speakers.
Asha Devi of class 9th was awarded first prize while second prize was bagged jointly by Sheetal, Simran and Usha of 8th standard. Vijay of class 8th clinched 3rd prize and consolation prizes were presented to Omkar and Simran of 8th standard.
The management of Bal Niketan expressed gratitude to the Information Department for providing such an opportunity to the inmates.
