JAMMU, Mar 14: Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School Gandhi Nagar celebrated its 67th Annual Sports Day ‘Spectrum’ from classes VI to VII amidst great mirth, fervor and camaraderie, here today.
The event was presided over by Anissa Nabi, KAS officer, presently posted as State Tax Officer as chief guest of the event, while Kritika Khanna-India’s first female para-rower and an alumnus of the School also graced the event.
The programme was also witnessed by the members of the School management and other eminent invitees. The event started with the well coordinated March past, wherein the chief guest, Anissa Naba, accompanied by School Principal Sr Amelina Rodrigues, inspected the contingents of the four houses including Perfection, Progress, Freedom and Peace.
The sports torch which symbolizes peace, friendship, tolerance and hope was lit up after which the meet was declared open by the chief guest.
The students captivated everyone’s attention with their synchronized drills and rhythmic dances, making the atmosphere frolicsome and refreshing. Various track events like, 100m, three legged race, balancing the book race, ball and stick race and many more showcased the stamina and competitive spirit of the runners.
The athletic events were witnessed with a lot of cheering and tons of encouragement from the parents, who constantly applauded the participants and motivated them to put forth their best efforts. Awards and trophies were given to the winners acknowledging their efforts and persistence.
The chief guest lauded the efforts put in by the School for inculcating important life skills and values like discipline, patience, team work and sportsman spirit among the students which are essential for the all-round development of the children.
The event emphasizes the importance of sports in students’ lives and their physical and mental development. The event concluded with the students singing the School song in unison, with a feeling of pride and gusto.
