Prasidh plots J&K collapse as Karnataka gains sizeable 1st innings lead

JAMMU, Feb 25: Karnataka’s medium pacer Prasidh M captured 6 important wickets and plotted J&K collapse to help his team gain a huge lead of 209 runs over Jammu and Kashmir, thus putting Karnataka in command, before Karnataka scored 128/2 in their second essay at stumps on Day-2 of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at IIT Chemplast, Chennai today.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 268/8, Karnataka added another 34 runs to put 302 runs on board. Karun Nair top scored with magnificent 175 off 311 balls, studded with 24 fours and one six.
He was in sublime touch, hitting the ball with utmost timing, fluidity, grace and brilliance. For J&K, Parvez Rasool was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 wickets by conceding 60 runs in his 30.1 overs, while Umran Malik and Mujtaba Yousuf bagged 2 wickets each. Auqib Nabi and Abdul Samad also claimed one wicket each.
In reply, J&K bundled out for a paltry total of 93 runs in their first innings as Prasidh M wreaked havoc. Openers Qamran Iqbal (35) and Jatin Wadhawan (25) were the only batsmen to show some resistance and application. Abid Mushtaq (10) was the only other batsman to reach double figures. Shubham Singh Pundir (05), Abdul Samad (01), Ian Dev Chauhan (00), Parvez Rasool (01), Fazil Rashid (02), Auqib Nabi (02) and Yousuf Mujtaba (05) fell like nine pins, while Umran Malik remained unbeaten on 4 runs.
For Karnataka, Prasidh M was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 6 wickets by conceding 35 runs in his 12 overs, Vidhyadhar Patil took 2 wickets, while Shreyas Gopal and Gowtham K claimed one wicket each.
Deciding not to inflict follow-on, Karnataka were comfortably placed at 128/2 in 42 overs at the draw of stumps.
In-form Karun Nair (10) and Siddarth KV (01) were at the crease. Both the opening batsmen- Samarth R (62) and Devdutt Padikkal (49) were sent back to the pavilion by left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq, who bowled 11 overs and conceded 24 runs.
