JAMMU, June 2: In a strange incident, the on-field umpire’s very poor show and mismanagement has forced one of the formidable participating teams, rather the defending champions Kishan Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) to boycott from the 2nd edition of the Under-17 Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL), here today.
According to reliable sources, the umpire was in all sorts of trouble while giving decisions in the match between KC Sports Club and KC Royals at KC Sports Club ground here on the other day.
Sources added when KC Sports Club needed 12 runs in the last over to win, with one of their main batsman at the non-strikers end, umpire after declaring him out ‘mankading’, also referred the decision to the third umpire, to surprise of everybody present at the venue.
In another decision of ‘mock-throw’, the umpire made mockery of the things by giving the decision after around half an hour, showing his lack of wisdom, to irritate the spectators, the organisers and the entire mob in the field.
The video clips which have gone viral showed that the cricket field looked like a battle field as the players, coaches and the managers rushed into the ground and walked even on the restricted area.
“The thing is not as to whether the umpire’s decisions were right or wrong, but the sorry state of affairs is that the umpires and the management failed to preserve spirit of the game. No one except the playing members, reserves and the officials should be in the playing area during play,” said a former Ranji Trophy cricketer on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the parents of many players while talking to EXCELSIOR said that after watching the proceedings on the other day, they felt harassed in sending their wards to the ground, adding that one got a feeling that the gentleman’s game is no more a game for gentlemen.
As per the fixture, KC Royals team was supposed to play against Summer Strikers today but did not turn up and asked the organisers that they were no more part of the event.
The incident has given bad name to the game which is otherwise a religion in India.
Experts believe that proper management and the panel of technical experts is the basic requirement for holding cash-rich events in every discipline of sports.
Cricket fraternity appealed the organisers to preserve sanctity and spirit of the game.
Meanwhile, Count Fitness Hurricanes today registered win against AKN Strikers but failed to make it to the last four stage.
