SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Police today said that it has already taken cognizance of a suspicious death of a lady at Chandhara-Pampore and the investigations are going on in the case.
A police spokesman said that a lady namely Kulsuma, wife of Ghulam Mustafa Bhat resident of Chandhara, Awantipora died in suspicious circumstances at SMHS Hospital on October 9 after she was shifted from her home to the hospital.
The spokesman said that Pampore police took the cognizance of the suspicious death and initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC in this regard. During the investigation the post mortem of body was conducted and viscera was sent to FSL. The investigation is going on, and will move further after it receives the medical report.
Meanwhile, family members of Kulsuma today carried out a protest demonstration here alleging that she was poisoned to death by her in-laws. The family members said that Kulsuma’s husband and in-laws were demanding dowry from her citing the reason that the money is needed by her husband to start his own business.
The family members said that they paid Rs 2 lakh towards the in-laws of Kulsuma after persistent demand for dowry. They added that the ‘killers’ were demanding more money from them. They said that Kulsuma was poisoned by her in-laws thus leading to her death at SMHS Hospital.
