PG women lift basketball title

JAMMU, Sept 25: PG Department, University of Jammu outplayed GCW Parade by eighteen goals to four (18-4) in a one-sided affair to lift the title trophy of the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Basketball (Women) Tournaments, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at J&K Police Stadium, here today.
Earlier, PG Department riding on superb performance by Sangita Bhatt and Amarpreet Kour took the lead from the word go and maintained it till the end to win the final by a big margin of 14 points (18-4) . Sonia and Sapna from GCW Parade also fought well.
Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare was the chief guest on the occasion.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Jai Bharat, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid and Sanjeev Jamwal.
Meanwhile, MAM College and PG Department, University of Jammu made it to the finals of the boys section.
MAM College beat GGM Science College by (32-18), with Sachin and Karan being the outstanding performers, while PG Department drubbed SPMR Commerce College by (43-5). Amit Sharma and Pankaj from PG Department were the lead scorers.
The matches were officiated by Aman Sharma, Amarjit Singh, Mohd Shafi, Rajinder Magotra, Shaktish Chopra, Rajesh Bandral and Nisha Sharma.
Basketball men’s final match will be held between PG Department and MAM College at 9:30 am tomorrow.
