PG Department claims twin basketball titles

JAMMU, Sept 27: Post Graduate Department, University of Jammu, claimed twin titles by retaining the Inter-College Basketball men and women titles at University Gymnasium here today.
PG men scripted a narrow win over a spirited MAM College team by 4 points (64-60), while PG women team trounced Government College for Women, Parade, by 9 points (30-21).
This was the third consecutive title for PG men team, which had to bring out their best to defeat strong MAM College, which maintained slender lead in first three quarters of the game.
MAM College’s Sushant Sharma’s tricks were superbly tackled by the players of  PG team, while Ranbir Singh, the skipper of PG team who was marked by Sushant had a cake walk after his ouster. It was then that PG gained lead for the first time and the last quarter was a ding dong battle in which both the teams matched basket by basket.
The final nail in MAM college’s coffin was the ouster of Forward Karan Kumar. PG finally emerged winner.
Meanwhile, in the women’s final, PG Department faced initial resistance by GCW Parade, with Diksha staging a lone battle for the team. Finally PG outsmarted GCW parade 30-21, thus winning the match by 9 points.
Jai Kumar Sharma OSD to Vice -Chancellor was the chief guest. He was introduced to both the teams before the start of the match.
Director Sports Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Dr Brij Baloria and Romesh Sharma were also present on the occasion.
The matches were officiated by Amarjeet Singh, Rajinder Magotra, Manoj Kumar, Nisha Sharma and Neenu Narayani.
