JAMMU, Sept 23: PG Arts, PG Law and Sciences and MIET scripted emphatic victories over their rivals in the Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament, being organized by GGM Science College at its Football Ground, here today.
The tournament was inaugurated by Kiran Wattal, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation in the presence of Dr Satinder Singh, Nodal Principal, GGM Science College, Jammu.
Earlier, in the first match, PG Arts defeated GDC Samba by three goals to one (3-1), while in second match GDC Udhampur got walkover against GDC Poonch to advance in the tournament.
In another match played today, PG Law and Sciences blanked GDC Rajouri by six goals to nil (6-0).
In yet another match played today, MIET got better of GDC Kathua via tie-breaker by four goals to three (4-3), while MAM College got walkover against RK Degree College to move into the next round.
17 teams are participating in the tournament and the final will be played on September 27, 2013 at the same venue.
While interacting with the participating players of the two teams, Kiran Wattal who is also the alumnus of the College assured all help for the smooth conduct of the Tournament.
In his address, Dr Satinder Singh highlighted the role of sports in education and expressed the hope that the tournament would inspire the students at large to take part in sports and games.
The matches was officiated by Ajay Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Rohit Gupta, Pardeep Katoch and Dnananjay Sharma.
The programme was compeered by Dr Alpana Vohra and vote of thanks was presented by Dr Vinod Baksh, Physical Director, GGM Science College, Jammu.
