LEH, July 4: In a thrilling match played between Oasis and Singay-11 at NDS ground on Tuesday, team oasis lifted the 19th Bakula Rinpoche 2nd Football Champions League 2018 organised by Kunfan Deytsogs Club Spituk.
As many as 320 players representing 20 different clubs played 48 matches in the tournament inaugurated by Hill Council Executive Councillor for Youth Services and Sport Gyal P. Wangyal on June 16, 2018. None of the team could score any goal during the first half of the final match played between Oasis and Singay-11 however in the second half of the game Oasis team player Ajay Tamang managed to score a lone goal to lift the cup.
Ladakh MP Thupstan Chhewang was chief guest on the occasion while MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora was guest of the honour during the final match.
Addressing the gathering MP said that such tournament reminded him of his schooling days with football as the most of the sports of those times. He also added that any kind of sports activity organised in a professional manner helps in promoting unity, brotherhood and to foster sportsmanship spirit. Sports activities not only keeps the youth in positive activity but one can also chose it as their profession to represent at different levels of tournament which is a big contribution towards society.
Earlier, presenting the welcome speech Society Secretary Phuntsog said that tournament organised in the name of late 19th Bakula is to pay rich tribute to him immense contribution towards the society at various level. Seeking funding from administration to sustain the tournament in future he added that it also aimed to divert the attention of the youth in positive activity.
On the occasion Upper Leh Councillor Lobzang Nyantak, Youth Services and Sports Officer Tsering Tashi, former councillor Sonam Wangdus, Ex-EC Mohd Shafi Lassu, Society President Lawang Tsering, Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo, spituk monks led by venerable Lobzang Angchok were also present on the occasion.
Presenting the vote of thanks Goba Lobzang Tsewang said that tournament was conducted in the month of June with an objective to make students studying outside Leh participate in the tournament during vacations.
