Nitin, Nipun shine as RCC Srinagar enters QFs in Chief Minister’s Cricket Cup

JAMMU, Mar 14: Brilliant bowling display by left-arm spinners Nitin Manhas and Dilbag Singh, coupled with magnificent batting show by Nipun Verma helped Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) Srinagar thrash United Cricket Club (UCC) by a big margin of 63 runs to seal berth in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 1st State Level 50-overs Cricket Tournament for Chief Minister’s Cup, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with Country Cricket Academy at Gharota, near here.
The Tournament is being organized in the memory of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister, under the supervision of Vikrant Sharma, Director Country Cricket Academy.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, RCC Srinagar scored a modest total of 146 runs in 42.2 overs. Nipun Verma played a splendid innings of unbeaten 49 runs, while Nitin Manhas and skipper Puneet Wattal contributed 17 and 16 runs to the total respectively. Dilbagh Singh and Mukesh chipped in with 13 and 12 runs respectively. RCC was struggling at 85/8 in 27 overs, however a partnership of 45 runs between promising Nipun and experienced Dilbagh helped the team to score a respectable total. For UCC, Tajamul took 4 wickets, while Saqib and Asif bagged 2 wickets each. Amir and Jamat Ali claimed one wicket each.
In reply, UCC bundled out for a paltry total of 83 runs in 25.1 overs, thus lost the match by 63 runs. Raja (15) and Naseer Rather (13) were the only two batsmen to cross double figure mark. Last match centurion Habib Ashraf and Tajamul contributed 8 runs each. Nitin Manhas was the wrecker-in-chief, who bagged 5 important wickets, while Dilbagh Singh scalped 3 wickets. Majid and Mukesh claimed one wicket each.
Now, RCC Srinagar will take on National Cricket Club in the quarterfinals on March 18, 2017.
