SRINAGAR, June 8: The National and International Footballers’ Forum (NIFF) today urged the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council to postpone the elections until constitutional flaws are addressed.
The spokesperson of the Federation stated that they have never been opposed to the holding of elections for the JKFA, but that constitutional mistakes must be corrected first in order to meet the aspirations of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is noted with dismay and unhappiness that despite raising objections with the Returning Officer nominated to conduct JKFA and Sports Council elections, no meaningful answer was received and no action was taken to resolve the objections,” he said.
He said that the process is being carried out unconstitutionally to benefit a few people. “Some hidden hands are destroying the whole process and trying to assist and benefit a few people who have been snatching the chair for many years illegally and unconstitutionally,” he said.
He claimed that the electioneering process is still going on behind closed doors. “17 nominations for JKFA elections have been received by RO, which runs in contradiction to the provisions of JKSC communication addressed to RO, wherein objections so filed are supposed to be disposed of well before the election notification is issued,” he said, adding that the elections are being carried against the court judgement.
He said that according to the JKFA constitution, elections must be held first, and then the centre body elections. “This is a brazen violation of the existing constitution of JKFA itself, which the Returning Officer and Secretary Sports Council should take cognizance of,” he said.
They urge LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Youth Services Sports, and Secretary Sports Council to postpone the elections for a few days and begin the process of correcting the JKFA’s constitutional flaws.
