JAMMU, Mar 25: NHPC Regional Office distributed scholarship worth Rs 20.22 lakh to 238 students of Government Schools in an impressive function presided over by Sanjeev Verma, Transport Commissioner, at Government Higher Secondary School, City Chowk, here today.
The students who were given scholarships belonged to GHSSs, Bazar Qasaban, Sunjawan, Bahu Fort and Government High Schools, Dogra Hall, Sandwan, Chowadi and Bhatyari.
The distribution of scholarships by NHPC was aimed at encouraging parents to send their daughters to school, lighten their financial burden on school education and sustain their efforts to support their children to complete school education.
Presenting the welcome address, general manager, NHPC, Amod Agrawal stated that the Organisation has been taking up many initiatives in the field of education, health, peripheral development, etc since 2006 under Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme across the Country including the State of J&K.
Sanjeev Verma in his address said that the initiative taken by NHPC shall go a long way in obtaining education by the students at school level, which is the need of the hour. He further said that NHPC, besides its core business of construction of Hydroelectric Projects, is concerned about its responsibility towards economic development of the society in and around its locations, which is quite appreciable.
Chief Education Officer, Jammu thanked Executive Director, NHPC, Jammu Region, S Kalgaonkar, for the initiative taken by NHPC and hoped that such initiatives would be taken in future also for the betterment of the student community.
The programme concluded with colourful cultural programmes presented by the school children.
