JAMMU, Aug 29: Various educational institutions and organisations today celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm and fervour which is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Raghav Langer in his message on the eve of National Sports Day stressed upon to cultivate national character and moral values among the youth and players through sports.
The Day was celebrated with enthusiasm by J&K Sports Council by hosting a series of sports activities including Hockey and Football matches at two different venues including KK Hakku Stadium Jammu on 116 birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand. Dr Zafar Iqbal, Chief Accounts Officer of J&K Sports Council was the chief guest at the function, while Rajinder Singh Kuku general secretary Hockey India was the guest of honour. On this occasion, an article was also released which was written by Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer Jammu.
The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu celebrated National Sports Day at the University Campus by Volleyball (Men & Women) and Basketball (Men & Women) matches. Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar was the chief guest while Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar University of Jammu, Prof Prakash C. Anthal, Dean Student’s Welfare and Arun Malhotra, former International Footballer of J&K were the guests of honour on the occasion. Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Directorate of Sports and Physical Education presented a welcome address and threw light on the importance of the Day.
Online poster making competition was organised by Government Degree College Jindrah to celebrate National Sports Day wherein Manisha Devi stood first, while Rajni Jamwal remained 2nd and Priya Jamwal and Eishika Devi Sharma shared 3rd position.
Department of Physical Education and Sports, GDC Billawar organised an intra-collegiate online quiz competition on ‘Sports Administration and Management’ on the eve of the Day in which various students participated with fervour. Aman Kumar, Akshay Kumar and Aman Sharma secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of the competition which was organised under the guidance of College Principal Prof Anita and supervision of Ravi Kumar, Physical Director.
GDC Kilhotran organised an inter-collegiate quiz competition to commemorate the birth anniversary of Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The competition was organised by the Department of Physical Education in collaboration with IQAC GDC Kilhotran under the guidance of College Principal, Dr Javed Iqbal. The participants who secured above 75 percent marks were awarded e-certificates after the event.
A 110 km bicycle ride was organised by Bicycle for Change Club by celebrating the National Sports Day from Jarai Morh Kathua to Gurdaspur via Amritsar Toll Plaza. The objective of bicycle riding was to educate the masses about the importance of sports activities especially cycling for better health and environment.
Brahmakumari Om Shanti Meditation Centre BC Road Jammu observed the National Sports Day wherein former Minister Sat Sharma was the chief guest while Wushu player Surya Bhanu Partap Singh graced the event enthusiastically.
A Volleyball match was organised by Group Centre Central Reserve Police Jammu on the eve of National Sports Day under the banner of ‘CRPF Khelo India.’PC Gupta Commandant told about the relevance of the Day and “CRPF Khelo India and said that sports was important for all of us because sports keeps us strong, healthy and fit.
Celebrating the Day, the Team Mask Force (TMF) in collaboration with National Development Association (NDA) organized a webinar under the chairmanship of its chairman Vijay Sharma and he also read out the message which was given by Jitender Mishra KAS Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports Department on the occasion of the National Sports Day.
A Volleyball match was also organised by Youth Services and Sports Zone Arnas at High School Shersundwan Block Bhomag of District Reasi on the direction of Director Youth Services and Sports Gazanffer Ali wherein Naseeb Singh Naib Sarpanch was the chief guest, whereas Panch Karnail Singh was guest of honour.
Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) organised Handball matches to celebrate the Day at Mini Stadium Udhampur. The matches were organised between Udhampur and Jammu teams in both men and women section under the supervision of DYSSO Udhampur, Sawarn Singh in support of Kargil Martyrs’ Handball Club Udhampur. The joint secretary of Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Dr S M Bali was the chief guest.
A women Hockey exhibition match was played between Sham Lal Hockey Club (W) and Power House Hockey Club (W) at Sports Stadium Poonch which was won by the latter by 3 goals to 1 in penalty shootout on the eve of National Sports Day. DFO Poonch Mohan Choudhary (IFS) was the chief guest of the function.
Paying tribute to Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary, a Kabaddi match was organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports Kishtwar under the supervision of DYSSO, Kharati Lal Sharma.
