REASI, Nov 30: National Rafting Championship ‘Chenab Challenge’ is the first adventure sports and National Rafting event that is being held on River Chenab. The three day event began with the registration of teams, issuance of Id cards and briefing and prologue here yesterday.
The event is being organized by Tourism Department in collaboration with District Administration Reasi. The event includes Marathon and Sprint events among various teams.
The event was flagged off today from Reasi-Bridge by District Development Commissioner Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and Director Tourism, Jammu, Soujanya Kumar Sharma. The event will culminate at Dera Banda Bahadur.
In this event about 9 teams are participating and each team has 8 players besides two rescue teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Soujanay Kumar Sharma said ” the motive of such events is to promote adventure potential of Reasi.
DDC Reasi informed that district administration is soon going to construct Adventure Sports Club and also a Society of District Officers is being constituted for promoting rafting.
The technical support for the event was provided by Sanjay Singh Sambyal, renowned rafter of Jammu and Kashmir.
RTO Jammu Arvind Kotwal, ADC Reasi Rajinder Singh Tara, SP Reasi M S Chouhan, ACR Reasi Tilak Raj Shastri, SDM Mahore Ashwani Kumar, Joint Director Tourism Shiv Kumar, Deputy Director Tourism Kewal Krishan Bhagat, Deputy Director Tourism Kanta were also present on the occasion.
