Chandigarh, Sept 9: Unseeded qualifier CHART trainee Naresh Badgujar upset fourth seed Ishaan Sethi to move into boys singles quarter-finals of St. Stephen’s School AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament at the Government Tennis Stadium in Sector 10 here today.
After losing the first set 2-4, Naresh came back strongly to win the next set 4-1 and decider tie-breaker by conceding only one point. He will be facing his practice partner, CHART trainee, Shashikant Rajput who defeated CLTA trainee Aishwaray Goel 4-1, 4-2.
Another qualifier CHART trainee Bhupender Dahiya upset 7th seed Dipin Wadhwa in a closely contested match. In that Bhupender won decider tie breaker 9-7. Top seed Rishabh Sharda, second seed Calvin Golmei, third seed Sahishnu Sharma and fourth seed Neeraj Yashpaul all CLTA trainees moved into quarter finals with straight set wins.
Dalbir Singh of Punjab upset eighth seed Savneet Singh Bajwa in a decider tie breaker 7-2.
In the girls section, top seed Ashpreet Kaur Bajwa was fully extended by qualifier CHART trainee Nikita Kharangra. Ashpreet won 5-3, 5-4(5). Other two CHART trainees Bindu Kulhria and Princy Panchal also moved into quarter finals. Bindu got walkovesr from Rahat Mangat. Princy defeated Anu Mor 4-2, 4-2. Second seed Harleen Kaur won by conceding only one game. Third seed Shambhavi Tiwari also moved into quarter finals by conceding only one game. Mansi Singh upset fifth seed Adity Dogra 4-0, 4-2. (UNI)
