JAMMU, June 1: Mountaineering Association of J&K has selected 16 women climbers of the state for the 21 days coaching camp to be organized by the Association prior to the 2nd Women North Zone Sport Climbing Competition scheduled to be held at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi from May 22 to May 23, 2017.
The selection for the coaching camp was made on the basis of trials conducted by the Association at Sprawling Buds School, Bantalab, Jammu, under the supervision of Joint Secretary of the Association Shawetica Khajuria who is also a National Judge of the game.
Shawetica Khajuria was ably assisted by Shashi Kant Sharma, the present trainer of the state team, to evaluate the performance of the climbers.
Divisional Sports Officer (Jammu) Ravi Singh, Observer from J&K State Sports Council S. Iqbal Singh, Football coach; General Secretary Mountaineering Association of J&K Ram Khajuria and Director of Sprawling Buds School Rahul Sharma were prominent among other officials present on the occasion.
The almost new look team is a fine blend of experience & fresh talent. While Shilpa Charak (Jammu) and Sumiya Kousar (Reasi) have already won medals at the Zonal level, Ambreen Fatima (Kargil, presently Jammu) Himani Choudhary and Vishali Sharma (Jammu) were also a part of the State team last year.
The other selected climbers Sakshi Magotra, Shaweta Magotra (Jammu) Vaishali Sarmal and Punam Thakur (Kathua), Deepika Dutta, Razia Tabassum (Kargil, presently Jammu) Sahib Kaur, Shubham Manhas (Jammu), Rigzin Tsomo, Skalzang Dolma (both from Leh) and Juhi Jamwal are all fast upcoming talented climbers who have the urge and the ability to perform well at the Zonal and national level.
The final selection of the State Women’s team for the 2nd Women North Zone competition shall be conducted during the coaching camp which shall commence shortly.
