JAMMU, Nov 1: Model Academy, the School of MIER organized Annual Sports Day for Humming Buds and its Primary Wing at BC Road Campus, here today.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation by 300 students from classes O level to VI.
Ranjit Kalra, Member, BCCI and J&K State Sports Council was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Adit Gupta Joint Director MIER was the guest of honour.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Rupa Gupta, Management Represen-tative, Ruchika Gupta, Project Director Humming Buds, Usha Gadoo, Vice Principal and  Rita Khanna, In-charge of the residency road branch of the School.
The programme commenced with the Guard of Honour presented by the NCC Cadets and Scouts and Guides wing of the School. The Head boy and Head girl of the school welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. This was followed by customary lighting of the torch and declaration of sports meet open by the chief guest. The national and State level sports winners upheld the torch with a promise to continue the remarkable achievement of the school in sports and games ever onwards.
Dr. Gupta presented welcome address and underlined the role of sports in improving fitness and developing life skills of students. He appealed to the audience to work towards good health to promote longevity and healthy life.
The beautiful display of dance steps and Aerobics Drill by the preschoolers mesmerized the spectators with their performance. The Yoga display by the students of the primary wing spread the message of inner calm, conquering bigger challenges. A plethora of fun filled athletic events were organized wherein the young athletes marveled one and all with their breath taking speed, focus and concentration. They took part in shopping race, obstacle race, balancing race, beach theme race, go green, rainbow dress race, treasure hunt, dress yourself, string the beads, relay race etc. and kept the audience on tenter hooks as the nail biting finished ensured a grand conclusion. The meet marked the participation by students of special school who took part with great zeal and gusto. They aroused special applause from the audience.
The heartening words of the chief guest, Mr Kalra infused confidence in the students to go higher and perform better. He said that determination, dedication and fair play are the hallmark of a true sportsman. He was presented a memento by the Joint Director as a token of appreciation.
The winners of various events were honoured with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. The programme was co-ordinated by Usha Chunni, Sports Officer of the School wing, Manju Vali and Amarjot, CCA In-Charges alongwith Mr Dinesh and Miss Pallavi, PTI and NCC Officer.
The vote of thanks was presented by Ruchika Gupta.
