JAMMU, Mar 3: Director General of Police, Prisons, S.K. Mishra, today inaugurated Unified Sports of Special Olympics Bharat at Central Jail Jammu Kotbhalwal which was organized by J&K Prisons Department in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat and Sahyog India Ltd.
The flag of Special Olympics Bharat was hoisted ceremonially besides the Band Party from Armed Police J&K performed on the occasion.
Special children and Jail inmates with disabilities among others participated in the event.
The event was organized for the first time in a prison of the country in which various games like badminton, hockey, football, dribbling, zigzag softball throw etc. were played. These events are conducted throughout the country for disabled persons through Special Olympics Bharat.
On the occasion, the DGP said that many of us are not aware about the working of special Olympic Bharat and lauded the role of Special Olympics Bharat and Sahyog India for organizing such an event in the Jail. He also appreciated the efforts of the organization for the welfare of special children of the State. He said that it is the resolve of J&K Prisons Department to provide access to services to the inmates with multiple disabilities which are available outside the prisons. He emphasized on the role of sports activities in maintaining physical and mental wellbeing of inmates. He also informed the gathering about various sports and cultural activities undertaken by the Department.
The DGP distributed medals among the winners in presence of Ashwani Jojra, State President of Special Olympics Bharat and founder of Sahyog India and senior officers of the Prisons Department.
