JAMMU, May 1: MIER College of Education organized the Annual Sports Meet at its Campus, here today.
The meet was inaugurated by Dr Adit Gupta, Principal MIER College of Education.
Students from all the departments of the college took part in events which included Tug of War, Kho-Kho and Chess.
The HoDs of different departments of the college along with all the faculty and students witnessed the sports meet and cheered the participants.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Adit Gupta encouraged the students to participate whole heartedly in the sporting events.
He said that proficiency in co-curricular activities including sports is an integral part of becoming an effective teacher and would help in developing a wholesome personality of the pupil teachers.
Dr. Gupta declared the match open and asked the players to compete with sportsman spirit, besides showing zeal and enthusiasm.
Tug of War was held between two teams from Under Graduate and Post Graduate Departments. Team A from the Post Graduate Department emerged winner, while in Kho-Kho match, Team B from the Under Graduate Department won the title.
In Girls Chess match, Priyanka Kotwal from M.Ed Semester II clinched the first prize and in boys chess match, Rajinder from B.Ed Semester II bagged the first prize.
Over 70 students from different wings of MIER College of Education participated in the Sports Meet.
The meet was organized by Sakya Bano, In-charge Games and Sports Unit and Usha Chunni, Sports Officer.
Medals and trophies were awarded to the winners by the chief guest on the occasion.
