MENDHAR, Mar 24: Three days “Mendhar Sports Mela” organized by district Police at Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) commenced here today.
The mela was declared open by SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain, in presence of ASP Poonch Yougal Manhas, SDPO Mendhar and organizing secretary of the mela Amit Bhasin, senior police officials, panchs, sarpanchs, locals and sports persons.
While speaking, SP Poonch urged upon the players to display the true spirit of sportsmanship and play the games in a discipline manner
Highlighting the importance of the sports in day-to-day life, SP impressed upon the youths to participate in the sports activities, so as to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
SP urged the youth to contribute positively in the society for maintaining communal harmony and peace in the area.
Amit Bhasin highlighted the features of the mela. He said that a total of 14 teams are participating in volleyball event, whereas, 8 teams will be vying for the Kabaddi event title.
In the inaugural match of the Volleyball event, Baba Sakhi Sarvar (BSS) Club thrashed Pappu Club and advanced to the next round.
