LUCKNOW, Oct 11:
Experienced Chandra Shekhar of Doodarshan Lucknow and runners-up Santosh Kumar Srivastava stormed into the men’s singles badminton semi-finals at the 3rd BBD University and BBD Green City State Media Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament here today.
Chandra Shekhar defeated Mazhar Naqvi of DNA 21-10, 21-17 in straight games, before Santosh also notching up straight games win against Amit Kumar also of Doodarshan 21-12, 21-13. Defending champion Lal Singh Martolia, YB Singh, PP Shukla, Vijay Singh too made it to the quarterfinals.
The table tennis events will take place on Sunday, where the finals of the two events would begin at 2.00 p.m.
Earlier, Principal Secretary (Information), UP Government, Navneet Sahgal inaugurated the two-day event being organized by the Uttar Pradesh Sports Journalist Association, at the Babu Banarasi Das UP Badminton Academy. Joint director (sports), RP Singh, ARTO Ajay Tripathi, secretary general of the Badminton Association of India, Dr Vijay Sinha, UPBA’s executive secretary Nishant Sinha, regional sports office, LR Patel, former Indian hockey captain Rajnish Mishra, RSO Noida Mudrika Pathak also graced the occasion.
