Maxim, Soham, Ritwan claim top three ranks in Horizon Cup

JAMMU, June 7: Maxim Singh, Soham Kamotra and Ritwan Sauntra claimed top three positions in the “Horizon Cup–Open Chess Tournament”, organized by Jammu District Chess Association (JDCA) at Ace Chess Academy, Trikuta Nagar here.
Apart from first, second and third positions secured by Maxim Singh, Soham Kamotra and Ritwan Sauntra, respectively, Ajit Singh, Ravi Sharma, Pranav Sharma, Arvindu and Varsha Rani claimed fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively in the tournament.
Arushi Kotwal was adjudged as best woman, Deewang Gupta claimed best U-10 title, Akashdeep Singh won best U-13 title and Puneet Choudhary secured best U-17 title.
On the valedictory function, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Soujanya Sharma was the chief guest, who presented cash prize of Rs 5,000 and trophy to Maxim Singh for securing first position in the tournament in presence of Atul Kumar Gupta, President, All J&K Chess Association, Baldev Raj, Vice President, Taranvir Singh Gujral, Chief Organizing Secretary, Vikas Nanda, Co-ordinator.
Sanjeev Mahajan, Chief Patron, Jammu District Chess Association (JDCA), Sanjeev Gupta, President, Manish Kaul, senior vice president and Vijay Choudhary, Director, Ace Chess Academy were also present.
Total cash prizes of Rs 13,000 along with certificates and trophies were distributed among the winners by Commissioner, JMC.
While speaking, JMC Commissioner Soujanya Sharma appreciated the efforts of the organizers for giving platform to J&K youth to excel besides diverting their energies in the positive direction.
Anil Kotwal and Bindu Pathania, FIDE Arbiters, conducted all the matches as per FIDE laws of Chess under Swiss System.
