Martyr’s Cup T20 Cricket C’ship begins

JAMMU, Mar 22: Martyr’s Cup T20 Cricket Championship was inaugurated by Shakti Pathak, Director Anti Corruption Bureau J&K which is being organised by Veteran Cricket Association J&K under the aegis of Board for Veteran Cricket in India at MA Stadium here today.
Rajeev Sharma, Member J&K Sports Council, BP Singh Bali, Divisional Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council, Vivek Suri General Secretary & Amit Kumar Vice President, Veteran Cricket Association J&K were present at the occassion.
The tournament is exclusive for players over the age of 40 with a message “Say No to Drugs & Yes to Sports”.
Shakti Pathak, while inaugurated the tournament said that such tournaments will give a solace to families of Martyrs that this indebted society has not forgotten the sacrifices of bravehearts. Two matches were played today wherein first match Amigoos Cricket Club defeated Evershine Cricket Club in a nail biting finish by 3 wickets.
Sandeep Singh captain of Amigoos CC won the toss and elected to bowl first and his decision was backed by his bowlers as Evershine CC was all out for a paltry 84 runs. Narinder Singh & Captain Hardeep Singh scored 19 & 17 runs respectively. For the bowling side Rajesh & Kuldeep took 4 & 3 wickets respectively.
Aamigoos CC while chasing 85 runs to win were 41 for 6 but Rajesh played a composed innings and took his team to victory. He scored 32 runs and was declared Man of the Match.
In another Match of the day, Vivek Suri, Captain of Veteran Cricket Association J&K-XI won the toss against Teacher’s CC & elected to bat first. VCAJK XI were 62 for the loss of 4 wickets when Ashish Singh and Captain Vivek Suri shared a much needed partnership of 67 runs for 5th wicket and took the score to 129 runs in 20 overs. Ashish scored 39 runs & Vivek Suri scored 25 runs. Vvikrant took 2 wickets & Saranjeet & Ajay shared 1 wicket each.
Teacher XI CC started on a blistering note and were in the driving seat from the word go. But VCAJK XI bowlers made some inroads in match by taking wickets in quick succession but Teacher’s XI won the match by 3 wickets. Rajinder & Gurmeet scored 39 & 30 runs. Rajinder Bajwa of Teacher’s XI CC was declared as Man of the Match.
