JAMMU, Apr 29: Ambidextrous all-rounder Manik Gupta, nippy left-arm medium pacer Kulvinder Singh and utility all-rounders Rompy Sharma and Satish Kumar played a pivotal role in guiding their sides to crucial victories to qualify for the all-important last four stages in the ongoing Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL) at GGM Science College ground, here today.
Earlier, BCC Bulls defeated JKP Tigers by 26 runs, while in the evening session Jammu Khalsa Kings XI defeated Kashmir Steel Warrior by 21 runs.
HK Lohia, IGP Technical Services J&K was the chief guest on the occasion, who gave away the cash prizes and trophies to the winning team and outstanding players. He was accompanied by Shakeel Ahmed Beig DIG Jammu, the General Secretary of PPCPL, besides Rajnish Pran Sharma SSP, Randhir Singh SP Hqrs and Sandeep Choudhary, SDPO West.
Earlier, in the first match, BCC Bulls winning the toss and batting first scored a modest total of 116 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Rompy Sharma played a brilliant innings of 32 runs, while Amir Sofi contributed with 18 runs. Amit Sharma of JKP Tigers took 3 wickets, while Jahangir Lone scalped 2 wickets and Shamsher and Ashraf claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, JKP Tigers was bundled out for 90 runs to lose the match by 26 runs. Khalid top scored with 32 runs, while Rajesh Gill contributed 17 runs to the total. Satish was the pick of the bowlers for BCC Bulls who took 3 wickets, while Rompi Sharma bagged 2, while Amir Aziz and Amir Sofi claimed one wicket each. Rompi Sharma was declared as man of the match, while Amir Aziz was awarded with cash prize of Rs 1000 for the best catch of the match.
In another quarterfinal, Jammu Khalsa Kings XI defeated Kashmir Steel Warriors by 21 runs. Jammu Khalsa Kings XI won the toss and set a target of 145 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Manik Gupta was the top scorer with 36 runs, while openers Inderjeet Singh and Parveen Singh contributed with 312 and 29 runs respectively. For Jammu Khalsa Kings XI, Vijay Dogra, Inderjeet Singh and Kulvinder Singh took 2 wickets each.
In reply, Kashmir Steel Warriors managed to score 124 runs and lost the match by 21 runs. Usman Pandit played a brilliant innings of 43 runs, while Wasim Raza contributed 20 runs to the total. Manik Gupta was declared as man of the match, while Ramdayal was awarded with cash prize for best catch of the match.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sadiq Hussain Malik and J D Singh, while the proceedings of post match ceremony were conducted by Rajesh Dhar and R P Singh.
BCC Bulls will take on Chenab Gas Royals in the first semifinal at 9:30 am, while Simula Superstars will lock horns with Jammu Khalsa Kings XI at 1 pm tomorrow.
