JAMMU, Mar 16: Government MAM College celebrated International Women’s Day.
On the occasion, Dr Shehnaz Ganai, MLC, was the chief guest, while Prof Nalini Kohli, Director Colleges presided over the function. Ved Ghai, social activist, Rajni Sehgal, Superintendent, Kot Bhalwal Jail, Nasreen Khan, Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides were the guests of honour.
Dr Ramesh Chander, Principal of the college presented the welcome address. He stressed that women constituted half a nation and both men and women have to work in coordination for the creation of harmonious society.
Dr Shehnaz Ganai in her presidential address highlighted the important issues related to women and steps being taken to improve their status and make them aware of their rights.
Ved Ghai deliberated upon the need to educate women, which would further empower them in achieving better positions in administration and academia.
Rajni Sehgal exhorted the participants to sensitize the society in general and students in particular, towards the various social evils confronting the society.
Nasreen Khan also dwelt on the need for taking several measures to ensure a gender-neutral and balanced society.
Sohail Kazmi, secretary general, Press Club was also present on the occasion.
Dr Twinkle Suri, Convener, IQAC exhorted that key to women empowerment begins with self-help and self-knowledge.
At the end, Dr Banpreet Kour, presented vote of thanks.
The programme was anchored by Prof Rakesh Gupta, HoD Commerce, whereas Prof Sujat Khan, coordinated the programme.
