JAMMU, Nov 23: Outplaying their rivals convincingly in the semifinal clashes, the eves of formidable Maharashtra and strong Gujarat have made it to the finals in girls section, while Karataka boys will be facing Telangana challenge in the summit clash of the 60th National School Games in the discipline of Badminton Under-14 boys and girls, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI), here.
In the first semifinal of girls section, Maharashtra beat Delhi by 2-0. Simran of Maharashtra defeated Ananya of Delhi by 21-13 and 21-11 points in singles, while in doubles, Simran and Malvika of Maharashtra defeated Vibhuti and Durva of Delhi by 21-07 and 21-10.
In another girls semifinal, Gujarat drubbed Rajasthan in an easy contest. In singles, Nupur of Gujarat defeated Seema Sharma of Rajasthan by 21-15 and 21-13, while in doubles, Nupur and Shruti of Gujarat beat Seema Sharma and Sejal of Rajasthan by 22-20, 19-21 and 21-16.
Now, Maharashtra and Gujarat will fight for top honours in the summit clash.
Meanwhile, in boys’ section semifinals, debutant Telangana defeated West Bengal, while Karnataka got better of Rajasthan to seal berth in the finals.
Earlier, in quarterfinals, Telangana beat Haryana by 2-1, Rajasthan trounced Tamil Nadu by 2-1, Karnataka defeated Andhra Pradesh by 2-0 and West Bengal got better of Chattisgarh by 2-1.
The sporting extravaganza, in which over fifty teams are participating, is being organized under the chairmanship of Navin Agarwal, Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K.
