JAMMU, Apr 25: Former Chairman and working committee member, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Romesh Mahajan inaugurated the 5th Jammu Tawi Premier T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Jammu Tawi Sports Cricket Club at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
He was accompanied as guests of honour by Desh Rattan Dubey, Joint Secretary JKCA (Jammu Wing); Ankush Abrol, former Ranji Trophy Player and Working Committee Member JKCA; Sports Promoter, Rahul Mahajan from Kishan Chand Cricket Club and Arun Dogra.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Shashi Paul, Organizing Secretary; Sachin Singh, Surender Kumar and Amit Sharma.
The proceedings of the inaugural function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, Chairman Media Committee JKCA.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, RCC Srinagar scored a fighting total of 140 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Skipper Puneet Wattal played a brilliant innings of 64 runs off 60 balls, studded with 9 boundaries, while Nipun Verma contributed valuable 36 runs off 38 balls with the help of 4 fours. Nitin chipped in with 9 runs off 7 deliveries. Puneet and Nipun were in sublime form, who hit the ball with fluidity and grace. For Talab Tillo Cricket Club, Harinder took 3 wickets, while Nitin Mehra claimed one wicket.
In reply, Talab Tillo Cricket Club bundled out for paltry total of 93 runs in 14.4 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 47 runs. Nitin Mehra was the top scorer with 25 runs off 26 balls, while Rinku and Surender contributed 15 and 10 off 17 and 6 balls respectively. For RCC Srinagar, Sachin Sharma, Praful Dhar and Dilbagh Singh bagged 3 wickets each, while Nitin claimed one wicket. Puneet was adjudged as man of the match for his magnificent knock.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Rajinder Singh as the umpires, while Vinod Kandyara was the scorer.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor will take on WCC at 9:30 am and Kishan Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) Blue will lock horns with Tawi Sports Club at 1:30 pm.
