JAMMU, Sept 11: Joint Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Madan Lal inaugurated the State Level Basketball tournament in an impressive and well attended function at MA Stadium, here today.
Seven district of the State are participating in the tournament which include Srinagar, Kupwara, Kulgam, Udhampur, Anantnag, Samba and host district Jammu, comprising of 128 participants and 11 officials.
The tournament is being organized by the department of YS&S as a part of annual calendar of sports activities under the patronage of Sh. Jahangir Mir, Director General Youth Services and Sports. Sukhdev Raj Sharma, DYSSO Jammu is the organizing secretary.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were ZPEOs Sher Singh, Jeet Singh, Veerji Bhat, Sarita Pandha, Anju Gupta, Mohd. Hanif and Veena Tickoo besides PEMs Rakesh Kakkar, Harvinder Kour, Vaishno Devi, Nirmal Devi and Rattan Lal.
The matches were officiated by Ravi Singh, Vishal Bharti, Mousmi Verma, Amit Kalsi and Vaneet Pangotra.
In Basketball Under-19 boys, District Srinagar beat District Anantnag by 17-04 points, Kupwara trounced Samba by 15-06 and Udhampur got better of Kulgam by 24-06 points, while in Basketball Under-17 boys, Udhampur prevailed over Kupwara by 20-08 and Samba outplayed Anantnag by 15-0 points.
The first semifinal in Under-19 boys will be played between Srinagar and Kupwara, while Udhampur will take on Jammu in another semifinal, while in the first semifinal of Under-17 will be played between Udhampur and Jammu and in the second semifinal, Samba will face Srinagar.
Meanwhile, in the Inter Zonal District Level Under-17 boys’ cricket tournament, Jourian zone defeated Miran Sahib by 5 wickets.
Bating first, Miran Sahib scored 87 runs for loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated overs, while in reply Jourian scored 88 for the loss of 5 wickets. Thus won the match. Rajan Singh from HSS Jourian was top scorer with 37 runs off 30 balls, while Sahil Kumar from Miran Sahib scored 25 and Karamjeet contributed unbeaten 21 runs.
In another match, Bishnah zone defeated Arnia zone by 28 runs. Vivek Choudhary with 48 runs from Bishnah was the highest scorer while as Sagar scored 19 runs. For Arnia, Vivek Kumar top scored with 16 runs.
