KUPWARA, June 22: The Indian Army today inaugurated Lolab Premier League, the largest cricket tournament ever held in Lolab Valley, bringing together region’s top local talent and cricket enthusiasts in a celebration of sports and unity. The tournament features 64 teams from across the valley, all competing in a 63-match knockout format for coveted title of Champions of Lolab and a berth in the prestigious North Kashmir Premier League.
Matches are being played simultaneously at four scenic venues Chandigam, Tekipora, Cheepora and Tarich drawing large crowds of cheering locals and energizing community spirit. The inaugural match kicked off at Chandigam Sports Ground, with Sogam Club facing the Forest Department Team. The opening ceremony included the trophy unveiling and team interactions, setting the tone for an exciting tournament ahead.
Other matches on Day 1 saw United Club Walkul vs Jolly Cricket Club at Tekipora, Aafan Royals vs Pathan Panthers at Cheepora, and Nutnussa Reds vs Friends Club Keegam at Tarich each match delivering high-energy performances and close contests.
The Lolab Premier League not only provides a competitive platform for aspiring cricketers but also fosters sportsmanship, local pride and youth engagement, reinforcing the Indian Army’s commitment to community development through sports in the region.
